The development of nuclear energetic in Estonia is going to be discussed this week during the negotiations of the coalition, reported “Aktualnaja kamera”. The topic is raised at the moment, when many countries have announced about suspending the development of nuclear power in relation to the events in Japan.
At the moment the most perspective location for the construction of the nuclear power plant in Estonia is considered to be the Pakri peninsular.
There is no real draft for the construction of a NPP in our country so far; however, we are planning to have it.
It is stated in the programme of the Reform Party that own NPP is among the possibilities of securing uninterrupted power supply. If the Lithuanian NPP construction project fails to be developed further, then it is necessary to start promoting the Estonian project, consider the reformists.
“One version is related to the international cooperation with our partners, i.e. possible cooperation with Finland with regards to the Lithuanian project.
If it fails or it will not satisfy us from the point of view of power security and energy supply, we cannot exclude under any consideration the construction of the Estonian nuclear power plant”, stated the member of IRL Juhan Parts, present Minister of Economics and communications.
Directorof the EstonianFund for NatureJüri-OttSalm is at the same time against the construction of the NPP, noting that apart from the security risks nuclear waste storage should not be forgotten.
The topic of nuclear power development is going to be discussed this week already during the negotiations of the coalition.
