Revision of the Pentagon missile defense program in Poland should not affect NATO plans to defend its entire territory, including Lithuania, stated Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.
It was previously reported at the U.S. Congress about the secret Pentagon investigation, where the effectiveness of the multibillion project on missile defense system in Europe, aimed at protecting the United States against Iran, has been questioned. In the report based on this investigation GAO representatives stated in particular that the deployment in Poland would only be operational if the United States will develop the potential to "run interceptors while Iranian missiles are in the booster stage of the flight."
It should be reminded that plans for a missile defense system in Eastern Europe have been approved under President George W. Bush. President Barack Obama announced on 17 September 2009 a change of plans: the U.S. postponed the deployment of land-based missile defense system in Europe until 2015.
