Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia: Talks on Association Agreements with the EU will be completed before the Summit in Vilnius

2013 03 28

Armenia remains committed to conclude the negotiations on the Association Agreement with the EU before the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, to be held in November 2013. This was stated on March 20 by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan at a joint press conference with the chief negotiator for the European side in the negotiations on Association Agreement EU - Armenia Gunnar Wiegand.

According to him, the 12th round of the negotiations took place on 19 - 20 March, where the goal of completing negotiations before the summit in Vilnius was set. He stressed that the work on the content of the agreement is approaching the final stage, all provisions have been agreed upon, and there is no need for an additional round therefore, but the parties still have to do some specific work. Mnatsakanyan noted that the completion of the negotiations is followed by the procedural stage, which requires time as well.

Mnatsakanyan also noted that the ongoing reforms in Armenia are linked with the associative agenda. Deputy Foreign Minister reminded that the agreement on the simplified visa regime with the EU has been already signed, and soon the agreement on readmission is going to be signed.
