Polish President directed to finance the development of the Polish missile defence system.

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski on 12 April signed the law stipulating stable funding for the project of creating own missile defence system.

"This document ensures the absolute priority of the Polish armed forces in developing its own defence system against air and missile threats. This will be part of a modern defence system of the country and of the entire North Atlantic Alliance, as well as an important signal that Poland has its own defence capacities and is able to cooperate in the search of common solutions and the creation of common NATO systems. Poland will be a safer country and a reliable ally “- quoted the Polish president ITAR-TASS.

The fact that Poland has decided to create its own missile defence system in relation to the U.S. decision to abandon the deployment of the fourth stage European system was revealed in March this year. As stated then by the Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, the missile defence system is a priority of the foreign policy of Warsaw, and it is ready to spend on it more than 30 billion dollars over 10 years.

It is expected that the Polish system will consist of mobile, not fixed formations, able to defend the Republic of short-and medium-range missiles.

Until 2022 the Polish Army is going to buy six batteries of medium-range missiles "Vistula", 11 short-range missiles "Narew", 77 self-propelled systems "Poprad", six rocket-artillery systems "Pilica", 152 launchers and 486 missiles "Perun" as well as more than 30 units of radar stations "Sola" and "Bystra".
