|Erika Rugalskaya. A military operation the "Spring Storm" launched in Estonia
On 5 May the largest military exercise in the recent history of this country involving NATO allies started in Estonia. Manoeuvres called the "Spring Storm" will involve about six thousand troops.
The exercise will involve 150 American paratroopers, 90 infantrymen from the UK, as well as units from France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. Also, Air Force fighter jets from Denmark will be involved - based at the Amari airbase near Tallinn, which started the protection of the Baltic airspace on 1 May.
Poland sends three Su- 22 attack aircraft and air defence units with missile system SA- 8. In addition, a team of cyber protection from France will participate for the first time in team exercises, reports "Interfax". Units of the volunteer paramilitary organization "Kaitseliit" and reservists are also involved in the "Spring Storm".
Exercises will cover the southern and south-eastern regions near the border with Russia, including Võro, Valga, Tartu, Viljandi and Põlva counties. Annual exercise the "Spring Storm" will be held for the 12th time already and will be concluded on 23 May. After the manoeuvres the U.S. paratroopers will remain in Estonia at least until the end of this year.
