Ukraine may impose economic sanctions against Russia this week already

2014 08 06

Kyiv is preparing its own package of sanctions against Moscow. The first measures can be introduced already in the coming days.

Ukraine may impose sanctions in the coming days against companies with Russian capital – parallel to sanctions that have been adopted by the United States and the EU. The Cabinet of Ministers has informally approved the first package of sanctions and is discussing the second. Measures will affect the financial sector, the supply of oil and gas equipment, and the military trade cooperation, writes the Russian "Kommersant", referring to governmental sources.

In particular, as reported in the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, the Office has already delivered the corresponding list to the Government, which includes "up to one thousand of companies." However, sanctions will be imposed so far only against some of them.

These are companies related in the main to the state structures of the Russian Federation, with the share of Russian capital exceeding 50%.

As known, on 23 July the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine established a Commission for imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation. According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers it will be headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in co-chairmanship of the Minister of Justice. The Commission will also include a large range of public officials. The Commission shall submit draft decisions to the Government in relation to persons involved in the military aggression against Ukraine, occupation of the Crimea and the funding of terrorists on the entire territory of Ukraine.
