|Estonia suspended the construction of the underwater North-European gas-pipeline
Andris Ansip, Prime Minister of Estonia, refused to receive Gerhardt Schroeder, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the North-European pipeline, and the operator of the company Nord Stream. Accordingly, the discussions of the route of the pipeline, which is planned along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, had to be postponed for the unlimited period.
It was considered that the former Chancellor of Germany will visit Estonia on the 8th of May. At the meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia he intended to discuss the issue of transferring the route of the Nord Stream gas-pipeline from the waters of Finland to the waters of Estonia. Schroeder has also meant to accelerate the processing of the documentation for the examination of the waters.
As Urmas Paet, Minister of Foreign Affairs informed, comments of Schroeder concerning the replacement of the monument to the Soldier- liberator in Tallinn, stating that this event might be assessed as offence to Russians, who were fighting against fascism, were received as unfair and biased in the Republic.
