The US House of Representatives approved a bill on establishing an inter-departmental body, the purpose of which would be to resist Russian attempts of "influencing the people and the governments" of other countries, - reported the Associated Press.
On Wednesday, 30 November, vast majority of members of the House of Representatives favoured the bill - 390, with only 30 against.
The document states that the inter-departmental commission will "oppose the active actions of Russia, aimed at providing covert influence": "to expose false information, agents of influence, corruption, violation of human rights, terrorism and murder, carried out by security and political elite of Russia or their henchmen".
AP notes that the approved bill is contrary to the promises of the elected US President Donald Trump aimed at improving relations with Moscow. During the election campaign, Trump favoured closer cooperation with the Russian authorities, and exchanged pleasantries with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
It is expected that the US Senate shall consider the bill by the end of this year and hereafter the document will be passed over to the president for signing.
It was reported earlier that a group of Senate members from the Democratic Party sent a request to the President Barack Obama asking to declassify information about the possible impact of Russia on presidential elections in the United States.
