Head of the RF President‘s administration might not be allowed to come to Lithuania

2007 05 18

The name of the Head of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Modest Kolerov, who is in charge for inter-regional and cultural relations with foreign countries, may, probably, be put on the list of persons, who are forbidden entrance to Lithuania. The IA REGNUM reporter was informed about that on the 14th of May by Justinas Karosas, the Chairman of the Committee on international relations at the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

According to the politician “this is not the initiative of the Committee of the Parliament; however this possibility is seriously discussed in various governmental authorities”. “Extremeness of this person (Modest Kolerov – noted by IA REGNUM) is known since long ago, moreover, that certain Lithuanian politicians are not allowed to visit Russia” – said Karosas.

The Head of the Seimas’ Committee noted that among Lithuanian politicians, who are refused entrance visas to Russia on political grounds, is also the vice-speaker of the Seimas, Chairman of the party “Homeland Union” (conservatives) and the Chairman of the Committee of the Parliament on European issues Andrius Kubilius. According to Karosas, all this has been arranged because of the critical remarks by Kubilius towards Russia. "Accordingly, our step is only a response", - emphasised the politician.

“This issue has also been discussed after expressions addressed towards Estonia (by Modest Kolerov - noted by IA REGNUM)”, - said Karosas. The politician reiterated that the Committee on International Relations of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania is not related to such decisions.

As has been earlier reported, the Centre of Geopolitical Studies has intended to invite Kolerov to Lithuania in June to participate in the discussion on Conflicts in the post-soviet area within the framework of its traditional “SummerAcademy”, which has been usually held in Russia or Estonia. Subsequently, according to the information of the IA REGNUM source, the official invitation to this event has not yet been received by Kolerov. According to the same source of information, the Kremlin official was informally invited to Lithuania by Raimundas Lopata, the director of the Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences at the VilniusUniversity.

We will recall the last outgivings of Kolerov concerning the situation in Estonia, made on 12 April at his interview for the newspaper "Riga. Rosvesty": “The solution of this issue (concerning the monument “The Bronze Soldier” - IA REGNUM) remains within the European area, since Europeans, in general, are shocked with the subsequent processes of re-nazification of Estonia. And we don’t have to take the trouble of freely or necessarily helping Estonia in convincing the world, that such renazification has anything in common with the democracy.
