Lukashenko: “We have created a new European state, independent from Russia, Poland and Lithuania”
2012 06 27

Belarus is an independent state. This was stated on 22 June by Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with young social scientists in the Museum of Modern Belarusian statehood- a subsidiary of the State Historical Museum, reported the correspondent of IA REGNUM.
According to Lukashenko, the Belarusian state – the Republic of Belarus – was established under complicated circumstances due to a historic chance given in the 90-ties of the 20th century. “Only in two decades – a tenuous wink of history – undergoing sometimes incredible pressure from outside, we have managed to create actually a new European country”, - noted Lukashenko.
“Our young state proved that even a small country may induce respect and follow an independent course of foreign policy. You can see the Western attitude towards us, and in the East we are not always properly understood, - Lukashenko continued. – But independent Belarus is not going to be, it has been established already. And this has to be admitted. Earlier or later it shall be recognized”.
According to him, the reason for non-recognition of Belarusian statehood is “not because of the different regime here, the wrong president or anything else”. According to Lukashenko, political bias of foreign countries is obvious in the relations with Belarus: "I do not want to draw parallels, but they successfully co-operate with some other regimes, because they have oil, money and so on. Just imagine, a small country in the Centre of Europe has decided to become independent -from whom? From Russia, Poland or Lithuania, - a part of which we have always been”.
“Our common goal (together with you advanced young people, and you from the middle and senior generation – all residing on this land), scientists, prudent and not – is to create a state that not only our children could be proud of, but we all shall be proud of this state”, - stressed Lukashenko, announcing quotes from his presentation in addressing the journalists and young people.
